STANFORD, Calif. – In the midst of Stanford’s fencing season, sophomore Alexander Massialas, senior Francesca Bassa and freshman Eliza Klyce will all be traveling this weekend to fence on their own.

Massialas will compete in his first event of the 2014 International Season. He will be headed to Paris for the Paris World Cup. He will compete both as an individual and for the U.S. Men’s Foil Team. The event will start with the individual preliminary rounds on Friday. Rounds 64 through the finals will take place on Saturday. The team competition will be held on Sunday.

The last time the foil team competed internationally was five months ago when they earned their first ever silver medal at the Senior World Championships. The last time they were in Paris, they captured the first ever World Cup title for the U.S. Men’s Foil team last year. They went on to win gold at the Pan American Championships and silver in four other events, leading to them being recognized as the overall World Cup Champions in 2012-13.

Massialas, ranked ninth in the world, will be joined by three U.S. teammates of his who are also ranked in the top 10, including No. 2 Gerek Meinhardt, No. 5 Miles Chamley-Watson and No. 10 Race Imboden. Bassa and Klyce will each be headed to the January North American Cup in Virginia Beach, Va. Bassa will compete in the Division I women’s epee on Sunday. She enters as the No. 4 seed and is among 139 entries in the field. Klyce will fence on Monday in the Division I women’s foil. She is one of 129 competitors entered.
