Kong Takes First in Korea

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford fencer Vivian Kong placed first in women’s epee at the Korea-USA Elite Fencing Invitational last week in Korea.

Kong finished third at the NCAA Championships and earned first-team All-America honors during her debut year at Stanford. She was one of five American fencers to compete in women’s epee during the invitational.

Four additional Stanford fencers competed at KUEFI and the Cardinal was represented in three of the six categories.

Avery Youngblood and Isabel Gueble captured eighth and 18th, respectively, in the women’s sabre while teammates Daniel Wolfson and David Beam fought for men’s sabre. Wolfson finished the two day competition in 19th place and Beam came in directly behind his collegiate teammate at 20th.
