OYSTER BAY, N.Y. – Helena Scutt and Paris Henken were crowned the first-ever United States 49er FX champions this past week at the NACRA 17 and 49er FX Nationals. The Cardinal also saw its own McKenzie Wilson finish fifth and Sammy Steele finish ninth at NACRA Nationals.

The duo of Scutt and Henken also won last week’s 49er FX at CORK Olympic Classes Regatta along the shores of Portsmouth Olympic Harbour in Kingston, Ontario. Next, they will travel to France to sail in the World Championships.

Scutt, who is entering her senior year at Stanford, crewed eight races last season and helped the Cardinal to a fifth-place finish at ICSA Women’s Nationals and sixth-place finish at ICSA Coed Nationals.

Also a rising-senior, Wilson finished 13th at the ICSA Women’s Singlehanded Championships as a junior.

As a freshman last season, Steele crewed seven events, helping the Cardinal to wins at the John Jackson Memorial and Jeremy McIntyre Team Races.

Stanford’s coed squad was recently listed at No. 1 in Sailing World’s preseason college rankings. The women’s unit checked in at fifth in the rankings.
