STANFORD, Calif. – USRowing announced the selections and boat lineups for the 2014 U-23 World Championship team on Friday with two Stanford women’s rowers named to the squad.
Daphne Martschenko, who graduated last month with a degree in anthropology and Slavic languages and literatures, was named to the women’s quadruple skulls boat. She will sit bow seat in the 4x.
Martschenko was chosen after competing at the national team selection camp in Berkeley, Calif. last month.
This will be the second U-23 World Championships appearance for Martschenko, who placed sixth in the 4- at the 2012 World Championships in Trakai, Lithuania.
Signee Devin Norder will also be on the USA roster. She automatically qualified for the team by winning the lightweight women’s double skulls at the USA Under-23 World Championship trials in West Windsor, N.J. The Sarasota, Fla. native will be the second Cardinal signee in two years to make the U-23 team. Ruth Narode won gold with the women’s eight last year in Linz, Austria.
Martschenko and Norder will join Stanford rowers Lilly Tinapple and Filippa Karrfelt in Varese, Italy July 23-27 for the U-23 World Championships. Tinapple will compete for Australia while Karrfelt will row for Sweden.
