STANFORD, Calif. – Rising junior Filippa Karrfelt will row for Sweden at the 2014 U-23 World Championships in Varese, Italy later this month.
Karrfelt qualified for the Swedish U-23 team with a victory in the double skulls at the Holland Beker in Amsterdam at the end of June. Her boat led from start to finish and finished ahead of a Canadian tandem by 16 seconds. Karrfelt posted a 7:06.75 to secure her spot on the national team as the other Swedish boat placed third in the final.
The current Stanford rower was able to compete along with two former Cardinal rowers at the Holland Beker. Elle Logan won the women’s 2- for the U.S. She was also in the first place women’s 8+ along with Grace Luczak for the United States.
Karrfelt will begin competing in the U-23 World Championships on Thursday, July 24. The first of two heats in the double skulls will take place at 10:26 a.m.
This will be the second straight year for Karrfelt at the U-23 World Championships. She finished 12th overall in the single skulls for Sweden last year in Linz, Austria.
