RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. – Seven of Stanford’s signees placed in the top 12 at the 2014 USRowing Youth National Championships last weekend.
Bettendorf, Iowa native Callie Heiderscheit came away with gold in the Women’s Youth 4x race. She helped Y Quad Cities win the race in a time of 7:19.366, a 5.5 second advantage over the next fastest boat.
Paige Voigt, a native of Darien, Conn., captured a silver medal in the Women’s Youth 8+ A Final. Voigt and her Connecticut teammates took second with a time of 7:10.421, two seconds ahead of the Sarasota Crew, which claimed bronze. The third place Sarasota Crew went 7:12.596 and featured two future Cardinal rowers in Florida natives Devin Norder and Tracy Roberts.
Four other Stanford signees competed in the B Finals. Madi Kist was in the winning boat in the Lightweight Youth 8+ race. Kist rows for Mount Saint Joseph Academy in Flourtown, Pa. With the victory in the B final her team placed seventh overall.
Jenn Belz from Mile High Rowing in Colorado placed 6th in the Youth 4+ B final. She also competed in the 8+ event, taking seventh in the reps.
Anya Miller, a California native who attends Laguna Beach High School, too third in the Women’s Youth 2- B Final for a ninth place finish overall. Rowing for Newport, Miller and her teammate crossed the finish line with a time of 8:54.95.
In the Women’s Youth 2x B Final, Cece Turner rowed for Founders Rowing Club. TheTexas native posted an 8:24.960 for fifth in the race and 11th overall.
The seven rowers who placed in the top 12 at Youth Nationals are among the 14 who have signed with Stanford to come in this fall.
