STANFORD, Calif. – This Saturday, May 3 will be the annual Big Row between Stanford and Cal at Redwood Shores.
Entering the weekend the two schools feature some of the top-ranked collegiate programs in the country with every squad ranked among the top 15 in the coaches polls. The women’s matchup will be a top five battle as Cal is ranked No. 2 and Stanford is No. 4 this week. The men’s races will feature No. 2 Cal and No. 11 Stanford. The Stanford lightweights are ranked No. 2 for the second straight week and have been either first or second all year.
Racing will go from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. with the Stanford lightweight, men’s and women’s rowing teams taking on the men’s and women’s crews from Cal.
The day will start with two races featuring the Stanford lightweights. The 2V8 will take on Cal’s openweight 4V8 at 9:30 a.m. with the Cardinal varsity eight going up against Cal’s 3V8 at 9:40 a.m.
Fans will get a chance to see a pair of fours races at 9:50 and 10 a.m. as the women’s 2V4 and varsity four will go back-to-back. The women’s races will continue with the 2V8 at 10:20 a.m. and wrap up with the varsity eight showdown at 10:40 a.m.
The first men’s race of the day will be the frosh eight at 10:10 a.m. The 2V8 race is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and the varsity eight will be the final race of the day at 10:50 a.m.
Following the racing will be a trophy presentation at 11:30 a.m.

The race course is located at the address: 3 Lagoon Drive, Redwood City, CA 94063
From US-101 take the Ralston Ave./Marine World Parkway exit and head East towards the bay. The course will be 0.6 miles on the right hand side.
To the launch site:
-At the second light turn right on Twin Dolphin Drive
-Turn left on: Lagoon Drive
-Turn Right into the first parking lot
To the viewing bridge:
-Follow Marine World Parkway
-Turn right on Bridge Parkway
-Turn right into the parking lot just before the bridge
-Walk up to the top
Parking is available free of charge at different lots along the race course. For parking at the launch site, there will be signs on Lagoon Drive directing fans to the appropriate lots.
Admission is free of charge.
The event will also feature longtime Stanford and Cal supporter Dan Gordon of Gordon Biersch Brewing Company serving food and beverages. Proceeds from the concessions will benefit both teams.
