STANFORD, Calif. – The Stanford women’s rowing team will travel to Seattle, Wash. on Sunday to compete in the Head of the Lake on Lake Union.

Stanford will be competing in two events at the Head of the Lake. The Varsity Eight will race in the Championship Women’s 8+ against Gonzaga, University of Portland, Washington and Washington State. The race is scheduled to start at 8:06 a.m. The Cardinal will then race two boats in the Women’s Collegiate Open 4+ at 8:29 a.m. Among the 11 boats entered into the race are fellow Pac-12 institutions Oregon, Washington and Washington State (2 boats).

The race will be the second of the fall season for the Cardinal as they opened the year with the Head of the American in Gold River, Calif. last weekend. The Novice 8+ came away victorious to lead the way while Stanford also recorded a second place finish in the Women’s Collegiate 4+ race. It was an event that allowed Farooq a chance to race her student-athletes in multiple events.

Some of the top performers from the first weekend of racing were freshmen Ruth Narode and Lilly Tinapple as well as Filippa Karrfelt. All three posted three top-five finishes. Narode and Tinapple were part of the winning Novice 8+, second place 4+ and fifth place Varsity 8+. Karrfelt took second in the 4+, fifth in the Varsity 8+ and fifth in the 2-.

Head of the Lake will be the second of three fall events for the Cardinal. They will wrap up the season on Sunday, Nov. 10 at the Head of the Lagoon in Foster City, Calif.
