• New Zealand's Nelsen, the only Stanford men's soccer player ever to be recognized as a national player of the year, is headed to his first Olympic Games ... He will play an abbreviated schedule in China ... The 30-year-old central defender will be available only for the first two group matches because his club side, the Blackburn Rovers, has requested he return to prepare for its English Premier League opener on Aug. 16 ... Nelsen is Blackburn's captain and a fan favorite ...
