STANFORD, Calif. – Redshirt freshman Jim Wilson of the Stanford wrestling team has been named the Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Feb. 3-9.
Wilson went undefeated (4-0) on the week as the Cardinal improved to 17-4 overall, breaking the school record for dual wins (15) set by the 1974-75 squad.
Wilson, who hails from Lodi, Calif., improved to 18-1 in duals this season and 30-5 overall, notching a major decision against Grand Canyon and decisions versus Arizona State, South Dakota State and Cal Poly. He became just the third freshman in program history to reach the 30-win plateau, joining David Lee (37) and Stanford’s lone NCAA champion Matt Gentry (35).
It marks the first weekly honor for Wilson, who is ranked 18th nationally at 165 pounds. He is the first Cardinal wrestler to receive the honor since Bret Baumbach on March 4, 2013.
Stanford will travel to Evanston, Ill., on Sunday, Feb. 16 for its final dual of the season against Northwestern. The Cardinal and Wildcats will square-off at 10 a.m. PT.
