Release: 11/06/2013

For the first time this season, Stanford men's soccer will travel outside of California as it heads to the Pacific Northwest for matches at No. 3 Washington and Oregon State.

The Cardinal (7-5-3, 1-4-2 Pac-12) opens the weekend Friday night in Seattle, battling the Huskies at 7 p.m. in what is forecasted to be wet conditions. Back on Oct. 3 the Huskies defeated the Cardinal 3-1 at Cagan Stadium.

The weekend closes Sunday afternoon in Corvallis as the Cardinal goes for the season sweep against Oregon State, having previous bested the Beavers 2-1 on Oct. 6.

Friday night's match will also serve as a homecoming for a pair of Washington natives on the Cardinal roster, as sophomore midfielder Aaron Kovar returns to his hometown of Seattle and freshman forward Jordan Morris, a native of nearby Mercer Island, will play in front of family and friends.

Kovar enters the weekend with a goal and four assists to his name, while Morris leads all Pac-12 freshmen in goals (six), assists (six) and points (18). Junior forward Zach Batteer leads the Cardinal with seven goals on the year.

Stanford went through a tough weekend at Cagan recently, falling 2-1 to No. 3 UCLA last Friday night before losing a late lead and ending up with a 1-1 draw against San Diego State Sunday.

Third-ranked Washington (11-1-4, 4-1-2 Pac-12) has outscored its opponents 35-13 so far in 2013, and is led offensively by Darwin Jones and Taylor Peay with six goals apiece. Cristian Roldan is right behind them with five goals, and in net goalkeeper Ryan Herman boasts a goals-against average of 0.90. The Huskies, however, suffered their first loss of the campaign this past Sunday, falling 2-1 to UCLA.

Sunday's opponent, Oregon State (7-7-2, 0-5-2 Pac-12), is still in search of its first conference win of 2013. The Beavers' last win came in a 5-0 win over Northwest Christian on Sept. 27. Oregon State is led by the scoring of Khiry Shelton (four goals) while in goal Matt Bersano owns a goals-against average of 1.04 and four clean sheets.
