June 3, 2008

Freshman Sihwan Kim (Buena Park, Calif./Sunny Hills HS) of the Stanford men's golf team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of May 26-June 2.

Ranked No. 10 nationally, Kim led NCAA Championships Runner-Up Stanford with one even-par round and one under-par round at the 2008 NCAA Championships. Kim recorded 11 birdies and two eagles over four rounds while battling strong winds on the extremely difficult Kampen Course of the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex on the campus of Purdue University. He fired a four-round total of six-over-par 294, the third best score in the tournament, and tied for fourth place individually with Oklahoma State's Rickie Fowler. He was named a First Team Ping All-American at the conclusion of the tournament.

Kim ended the season ranked seventh in the nation and with a slew of honors complementing his All-American nod, including CGCA All-Freshman Team, Pac-10 Freshman of the Year, First Team All-Conference. In 12 tournaments, he posted two even-par and 17 under-par rounds on the year, and he notched seven top-10 and four top-25 individual performances. His season low stroke average of 71.6 was the best on the team in 2007-08, and puts him at seventh on the Stanford all-time list. He also cracked Stanford's Top-25 Low Individual Rounds record, landing at third with a 63 at the 2008 UH-Hilo Invitational.

This is Kim's first Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of 2007-08.
