Lauren Silver Named Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week

April 14, 2009

Senior driver Lauren Silver (Long Beach, Calif./Wilson High School) of the top-ranked Stanford women's water polo team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of April 6-12.

Silver posted her fifth hat trick of the season in Saturday's 9-8 Big Splash victory over No. 5 California, scoring the eventual game-winner on a five-meter penalty shot late in the third period. For her performance, Silver was also named MPSF Mikasa Co-Player of the Week on Monday. The victory kept Stanford undefeated in MPSF play at 6-0, and improved the team's record to 22-1 overall.

This is Silver's second Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor and the second for the women's water polo team in the 2008-09 season. Silver and the Cardinal will battle for the MPSF regular-season title and top seed at next week's conference tournament this Saturday against also-undefeated and second-ranked USC. The contest is set for a 4:30 p.m. start on the USC campus.

Also nominated: Ashley Hansen (softball), Kelly McKenna (sailing), Brett Mooneyham (baseball), Maris Perlman (lacrosse), Daniel Schaerer (men's track and field), Erik Shoji (men's volleyball), Ryan Thacher (men's tennis), Michaela Wallerstedt (women's track and field).
