Laura Shane Named Stanford/Muscle Milk Student Athlete Of The Week

Senior Laura Shane (Baltimore, Md./Towson HS) of the No. 20 Stanford women's lacrosse team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of April 28-May 4.

Shane started all three games in goal for the Cardinal as they were able to capture their fourth straight MPSF Tournament title last weekend in Berkeley, Calif. Shane recorded 17 saves in the championship game against top-seed Denver, to beat the Pioneers for the third time in a row in the title game. The Cardinal also beat second-seed California behind 15 saves from Shane. Shane also played the first half of Stanford's 19-4 victory over Saint Mary's in the first round of the tournament and recorded 6 saves. All tolled, Shane recorded 36 saves and had a .667 save percentage during the week. She allowed only 7.20 goals per game.

This is Shane's first Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor and the first for the women's lacrosse team in the 2008 season. Shane finishes the season first in the nation with 232 saves and first in the nation with a .559 save percentage.
