STANFORD, Calif. - Fifth-year senior Chase Thomas of the football team has been named the Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for October 15 - 21.

This is the first career honor for Thomas and the fourth for a football player this season, joining Usua Amanam, Josh Nunes and Stepfan Taylor.

Stanford and the Thomas-led defense notched an historic victory over Cal in the 115th Big Game, 21-3. The Bears brought the No. 3 rushing offense in the Pac-12 (195.0) into the game but were held to three total yards rushing. Stanford allowed less than 3.9 inches per carry by a team averaging 5.0 yards per carry.

Thomas led the Cardinal with seven tackles (five solo) and 3.0 tackles for loss in the game. He recorded a seven-yard sack, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Stanford's dominating defense recorded 11 tackles for loss, four sacks and allowed only three points - the lowest since the 2011 season opener versus San Jose State and fewest in a Big Game since 1998.

A Communication major taking his final class at Stanford this fall, Thomas came to The Farm from Marietta (Ga.) Walton High School. He set school records with 37 career sacks, including 17 sacks his senior year. Thomas led his team to a league title and the Georgia 6A state semifinals in 2007.

Thomas and the football team play their next game Saturday Oct. 27 at Stanford Stadium versus Washington State with a national Pac-12 Networks broadcast at 3:15 p.m. PT.
