Junior forward Stephanie Byrne has been named the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Sept. 27-Oct. 3.
The honor is the first of Byrne's career and first for a field hockey player since Nora Soza earned recognition back on Nov. 2, 2008.
Byrne scored a pair of goals last week while attempting a team-high six shots as No. 16 Stanford posted wins over No. 8 Wake Forest and UC Davis.
Byrne led all players with four shots and scored a goal during Stanford's 4-2 road upset of Wake Forest on Sept. 27. She then tallied the game-winning goal in overtime during a 2-1 win over UC Davis on Oct. 2. It was Byrne's second game-winning overtime goal of the year, as she also tapped home the deciding score in a 2-1 victory over Iowa back on Sept. 11. Byrne now has three game-winning overtime goals in her career.
Stanford hosts Harvard at the Varsity Turf on Friday, Oct. 8, at 5 p.m. in its next contest.
