STANFORD, Calif. - Senior two-meter Melissa Seidemann of the second-ranked Stanford women's water polo team was named Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of April 8-14.
Seidemann scored four goals this past weekend as the Cardinal (25-1, 5-0 MPSF) grabbed a pair of road victories at No. 1 USC and No. 11 Loyola Marymount. She set the tone early in Stanford's 6-4 win over the top-ranked Trojans, scoring on each of the Cardinal's first two possessions. Seidemann also played a big role in Stanford's defensive effort which held the MPSF's top offense to a season-low four goals in dealing USC its first loss of the season.
The win also clinched for the Cardinal the top seed and a first-round bye at the MPSF Championship, set to be held April 26-28 in Berkeley.
Sunday she scored twice more in Stanford's 10-2 win at LMU.
Monday's honor is the second of Seidemann's career and the first this season for the women's water polo team. The Cardinal, expected to take over the top spot in Wednesday's new CWPA Varsity Top 20 Poll, ends the regular season Friday at 5 p.m. at California.
