STANFORD, Calif. - Senior Kayla Pedersen (Fountain Hills, Ariz./Red Mountain HS) of the Stanford women's basketball team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 17-23.
Pedersen showcased her versatility as No. 4/4 Stanford took sole possession of first place in the Pac-10 with a pair of convincing victories over its closest conference competition, No. 8/8 UCLA and USC. Pedersen paced the Cardinal with averages of 17.0 points and 7.5 rebounds over the two wins, shooting 63.2 percent (12-for-19) from the field and 57.1 percent (4-for-7) from 3-point range.
In Thursday's battle for first place between top-10 teams, the Fountain Hills, Ariz. native imposed her will on No. 8/8 UCLA, posting a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds while going 6-for-9 from the field in Stanford's 64-38 win, the Cardinal's third triumph over a top-10 foe this season. Two days later, Pedersen was again lights-out from the field, going 6-for-10 overall and 3-for-4 from behind the arc on the way to 16 points, five rebounds and three assists in Stanford's 95-51 victory.
This week's Muscle Milk honor is the second of Pedersen's career and the second this season for the Cardinal women's basketball team.
