Release: 09/04/2012
Senior Usua Amanam of the football team has been named the Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for August 27 - September 2.

This is the first career honor for Amanam and first for a football player since Stepfan Taylor on October 24, 2011.

Amanam aided the Cardinal in their 20-17 season opening victory over San Jose State Friday night. In his first career start, the senior nickel back recorded six tackles - including four tackles for loss and two sacks. Only six players in FBS college football notched four tackles for loss in the opening weekend.

Amanam also recovered a key fumble in the fourth quarter which set up the winning Stanford scoring drive.

An Energy Resources Engineering major with designs on a Petroleum Engineering master's degree next year, Amanam came to Stanford from San Jose (Calif.) Bellarmine College Prep. He rushed for 1,828 yards and 30 touchdowns his senior year of high school and began his Cardinal football career at running back before switching the spring of 2011 to defensive back.

Amanam and the football team play their next game Saturday Sept. 8 at Stanford Stadium versus the Duke Blue Devils at 7:30 pm PT.
