STANFORD, Calif. - Chiney Ogwumike of the top-ranked Stanford women's basketball team was voted the Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Dec. 10-16, her second honor of the season.
In addition to being her second weekly honor of the season, it is also Ogwumike's third career honor.
The junior forward posted career highs in points (31) and field goals (14) in leading Stanford to a 78-43 win over Pacific Saturday night at Maples Pavilion. The win, coming after a 13-day break for final exams, extended the Cardinal's national-best active home winning streak to 82 games.
Ogwumike also grabbed 13 rebounds to post her sixth straight double-double and seventh of the season as the Cardinal ran its season-opening winning streak to nine wins for just the fifth time in program history.
The consensus national player of the year candidate and preseason All-American is averaging 22.0 points and 11.9 rebounds while shooting a scorching 65.6 percent over the first nine games of the campaign.
No. 1/1 Stanford is on the road this week, visiting No. 21/18 South Carolina Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. PT then heading to No. 10/13 Tennessee for a 1 p.m. PT Saturday tip. Wednesday's game at South Carolina will be televised on Fox Sports South as well as FCS Atlantic (Channel 413 on Comcast).
