STANFORD, Calif. - Senior Chris Derrick from cross country has been named the Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Nov. 21- Nov. 27.
This is the fifth career Muscle Milk honor of Derrick's career. He has earned the honor several times over his decorated career that now includes 11 All-America honors over four seasons of cross country and three seasons of track and field.
Derrick was honored after his runner-up finish at the NCAA Championships last Monday. He helped lead Stanford to a fifth-place finish in the team competition.
Derrick also became just the sixth athlete on the men's side to finish in the top-10 at the NCAA meet all four years. The other names that he is now associated with include Steve Prefontaine, Nick Rose, Bob Kennedy, Kevin Sullivan and Adam Goucher. Derrick's 10,000-meter time of 28:57.5 on the NCAA course in Terre Haute was the third-fastest ever and he became the first American to break 29 minutes.
Derrick will now continue into the 2012 track and field season where he will be among the NCAA favorites at 5,000 and 10,000 meters.
