STANFORD, Calif. - Senior Evan Barry (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines High School) of the No. 1 Stanford men’s volleyball team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of February 13-19.
Barry set Stanford to a combined hitting percentage of .459 and had 92 assists, 10 digs, and five blocks in victories at No. 2 UC Irvine and unranked UC San Diego last weekend. Barry distributed the ball evenly while keeping the block off each hitter. In both matches, Stanford had three hitters with at least 10 kills apiece, and with hitting percentages far above .300.
Barry leads the nation with 12.26 assists per game and has set the Cardinal to the second highest hitting percentage in the country (.365).
This is Barry’s first Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor and the second for the men’s volleyball team in the 2011-12 season. Barry and the Cardinal boast an 11-2 overall record and an 8-1 mark in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation heading into this weekend’s conference home opener against Pepperdine on Friday at 7 p.m.
