Sophomore forward Kayla Pedersen (Fountain Hills, Ariz./Red Mountain High School) of the No. 2/2 Stanford women's basketball team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of March 9-15.
Pedersen averaged 11.3 points and 8.3 rebounds a game, including a 25-point, nine-rebound effort in Sunday's title game, at the Pac-10 Tournament, earning Most Outstanding Player honors in leading Stanford to its sixth Pac-10 Tournament title. Pedersen's 25 points and 10 field goals Sunday were both season highs.
This is Pedersen's second Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor and the third for the women's basketball team in the 2008-09 season. Pedersen and the Cardinal currently boast an 29-4 overall record and received a No. 2 seed in the Berkeley Regional of the NCAA Tournament. Stanford opens tournament play Saturday, March 21, at 7:30 p.m. against 15th-seeded UC Santa Barbara.
