STANFORD, Calif. - Senior Eddie Penev (Rochester, N.Y., Fairport High School) of the Stanford men's gymnastics team was named the Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 15-21.
Penev helped lead No. 2 Stanford to a Stanford Open quad meet victory over No. 4 Oklahoma, No. 9 Nebraska and No. 10 California. The Cardinal improved to 4-0 on the season, with all four victories coming against top 10 opponents.
The five-time All-American finished second on floor exercise (15.600) and parallel bars (14.700), and won the all-around title with a 87.200. It was Penev's second consecutive all-around title and his score ranks second-highest in the NCAA this season.
Penev is currently ranked second in the NCAA on floor and third in the all-around with average scores of 15.650 and 86.200, respectively.
This is Penev's third Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor and the first for the men's gymnastics team in the 2013 season. Penev was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week and NCAA Gymnast of the Week for the week of Jan. 8-15.
