STANFORD, Calif. - Junior Brian Pingree (Los Angeles, Calif./Harvard-Westlake High School) of the No. 6 Stanford men's water polo team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 4-10.
Pingree anchored the Cardinal defense Saturday, making a career-best 14 saves in Stanford's 5-3 victory over top-ranked and undefeated USC. The junior goalie made six saves in the opening frame and held the Trojans, who entered the contest as the MPSF's top-scoring offense with 15.40 goals per game, to just one goal over three-plus periods and three for the game. He punctuated his career day by saving a USC five-meter penalty shot as time expired, as Stanford snapped a 17-game losing streak to the Trojans.
This week's Muscle Milk honor is the first of Pingree's career and the first this season for the Cardinal men's water polo team.
This weekend, Pingree and the Cardinal head to his hometown for a 7 p.m. contest Friday night, Oct. 15, at No. 2 UCLA. Stanford will then conclude the weekend Sunday, Oct. 17 in a 12 noon contest at No. 5 UC Santa Barbara.
