STANFORD, Calif. - For the fourth time this season junior forward Chiney Ogwumike of the Stanford women's basketball team was voted the Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 21-27.
Ogwumike shot 61.5 percent from the field (16-for-26) while averaging 21.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 2.50 blocks from the field last weekend as No. 6/6 Stanford swept Utah and No. 20/23 Colorado. Her performance also earned her the USBWA Ann Meyers Drysdale National Player of the Week honor as well as her fourth Pac-12 Player of the Week selection of the season.
The Cypress, Texas native scored 23 points with 13 rebounds Friday against Utah, as Stanford ran to a 65-44 win. Two days later, Ogwumike posted her 15th double-double of the season, going for 20 points and 12 rebounds in Stanford's 69-56 win over No. 20/23 Colorado. It was also the 15th 20-point performance of the season for Ogwumike.
Through Monday's NCAA stat rankings, Ogwumike's 15 double-doubles are fourth-best, and she is the only player to rank in the national top 10 in scoring (22.0 ppg - sixth), rebounding (12.0 rpg - seventh) and field-goal percentage (58.6 - seventh).
Stanford, tied for first on the Pac-12 table at 7-1 and 18-2 overall, travels north this weekend to visit Oregon Friday at 6 p.m. followed by Sunday's 2 p.m. tip at Oregon State. Both games will be televised on the Pac-12 Network.
