STANFORD, Calif. - Senior outside hitter Alix Klineman has been selected the first Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week of the 2010-11 season after leading the Cardinal to a 3-0 record at the MCM Elegante Lobo Classic in Albuquerque, N.M.
Klineman was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after the Cardinal defeated Tulane (25-11, 25-16, 25-19), Pepperdine (25-14, 25-17, 21-25, 25-16) and host New Mexico (25-14, 25-18, 25-20). The Manhattan Beach, Calif., native averaged 5.20 kills, 2.30 digs and 5.70 points per set over the three-day event with her first double-double of the season coming against the Lobos (19 kills, 10 digs).
In the team's season opening sweep over Tulane, Klineman tallied 15 kills on 28 attempts for a .429 attack percentage, while also racking up eight digs and a block to give head coach John Dunning his 700th career win. She followed up with 18 kills and five digs against Pepperdine.
Klineman was also named the Pacific-10 Conference Player of the Week, marking the fourth time in her career she has received the honor. This is also the third Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor for the senior.
The Cardinal returns home this week to host the Stanford Invitational, Sept. 2-4. Stanford's home opener is Thursday, Sept. 2 against UC Irvine at 7 p.m. The team will also host Marquette on Saturday, Sept. 4 at 2 p.m. The Anteaters and Golden Eagles will face off on Friday at 6 p.m. All matches will be played in Maples Pavilion.
