STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford senior Nick Amuchastegui has been named the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week after leading the Cardinal to a 23-17 Pac-12 dual win at No. 18 Cal Poly on Sunday.
Amuchastegui, ranked No. 1 in the nation at 174 pounds, faced fourth-ranked Ryan DesRoches in the dual. Both wrestlers entered the match with unblemished season records. Amuchastegui dominated his opponent on his way to an 8-0 major decision victory. He improved to 14-0 over and 11-0 in duals this season. He now holds a 108-18 career record, just one win shy of tying Stanford All-American Steve Buddie for the fifth-most wins in program history.
It is the second Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor for Amuchastegui as he won the honor in March 2011 after finishing runner-up at the NCAA Championships.
