Stanford women's basketball arrived in Ames, Iowa Thursday evening ahead of it's opening-round NCAA Tournament action this weekend.

The No. 2-seeded Cardinal opens play Saturday with a first-round matchup against No. 15 South Dakota at 3:30 p.m. PT at Hilton Coliseum. Saturday's contest will be televised on ESPN2 with Clay Matvick and Fran Fraschilla on the call.

The Cardinal's day opened on the West Coast with a 7:30 a.m. practice at Maples Pavilion. After a 90-minute workout, the team cleaned up, got its bags and boarded the bus for Norman Y. Mineta International Airport in San Jose. There, the team boarded its charter for the three-hour flight to Des Moines.

The team's enthusiasm was exhibited by junior forward Taylor Greenfield, who was elated to be returning to her home state to play for the first time since her prep days at Ballard Community High School in Huxley, Iowa. The Iowan, who led her school to a state title and a pair of state tournament semifinal appearances, will play her opening-round NCAA Tournament games in front of numerous family members and friends just over 10 minutes away from her childhood home.

The team arrived at its hotel about 5:15 p.m. CT and went to team dinner followed by a film session. The team's ebullient attitude was evident throughout the traditional Slinky run as the charter took off, and Friday the squad will have its first practice and media availability at Hilton Coliseum.
