Release: 02/12/2014

Two postseason award committees recognized Stanford forward Chiney Ogwumike Wednesday as she was named to the Naismith Trophy Midseason Top 30 List as well as one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award.

The Senior CLASS Award will be announced at the 2014 NCAA Women's Final Four in Nashville, Tenn. Ogwumike has a chance to become Stanford's third winner of the honor, following Candice Wiggins (2008) and older sister Nnemkadi Ogwumike (2012). Part of the award process involves the fan vote, and fans can vote for Ogwumike once per day through March 24 at the Senior CLASS Award website.

She is the only Pac-12 player among the Senior CLASS Award finalists, while she is one of two, along with California's Brittany Boyd, among the Naismith Trophy's Top 30.

A preseason frontrunner for national player of the year honors, Ogwumike has only increased her standing over the past three months of the season. Through this past weekend's games she is the only player in the country to rank in the NCAA top 10 in scoring (27.2 ppg - third), rebounding (12.3 rpg - eighth), field-goal percentage (63.2 - second) and double-doubles (18 - sixth), and has scored at least 30 points 11 times this season.

Ogwumike has also marched to the top of multiple Pac-12 record lists, most notably becoming the conference's all-time leading rebounder on Jan. 3 when she passed Kayla Pedersen's previous mark of 1,266 rebounds. Through Stanford's most recent action on Feb. 9, Ogwumike's record rebounding total stands at 1,415, while her career rebounding average of 10.7 per game is also tops in the Pac-12 record book. Averaging over 27 points per game this year, Ogwumike, with 2,423 career points, has put herself in position to eclipse Candice Wiggins' top Pac-12 mark of 2,629 by season's end.

She also became just the fifth Stanford player to reach 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds for her career back on Dec. 16.

Ogwumike's stellar play and leadership has helped carry No. 6/5 Stanford to a 22-2 overall mark and an 11-1 record in Pac-12 play, as the Cardinal holds a two-game lead atop the conference table and appears en route to its 14th straight regular-season crown and 23rd overall.
