Senior forward Chiney Ogwumike was a unanimous selection by voters to the 2013-14 Preseason Associated Press All-America Team, the AP announced Tuesday.

It marks the second straight season that Ogwumike has been named to the preseason team by the AP. She is also a two-time Associated Press All-American (regular season), earning second-team honors in 2012 and being voted to the first team last season.

Ogwumike was joined on the AP Preseason All-America Team by Maryland’s Alyssa Thomas, Baylor’s Odyssey Sims, and Connecticut’s Breanna Stewart and Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis.

Ogwumike has received numerous accolades already this preseason, also being named a preseason candidate for the Wade Trophy Player of the Year (WBCA), the John R. Wooden Award (Los Angeles Athletic Club) and the Senior CLASS Award.

She saw her first action on the court this past Sunday as Stanford defeated Vanguard 79-47 in its only exhibition game of the preseason. Ogwumike scored 27 points with 15 rebounds in 21 minutes of action, and had a double-double by halftime with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Last season Ogwumike was a consensus All-American and national player of the year finalist after averaging 22.4 points and 12.9 rebounds per game while shooting 58.6 percent from the field. Those figures, while ranking seventh, fifth and fourth in the nation, respectively, also led the Pac-12, making her the first player to capture the Pac-12 Triple Crown. She was named Pac-12 Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, also becoming the first player to earn the conference’s top individual player honors.

Ogwumike is one of four starters, along with Mikaela Ruef, Amber Orrange and Sara James, returning in 2013-14 for a Stanford team that went 33-3 and captured its 13th straight Pac-12 regular-season title and seventh consecutive Pac-12 Tournament crown last year.

Stanford, ranked No. 3 in both the Associated Press and USA Today Sports Coaches Polls, opens the 2013-14 campaign with a trip to the East Coast and games at Boston College (Nov. 9) and No. 1 Connecticut (Nov. 11). Next Monday’s game at Connecticut will be broadcast live on ESPN2 at 4 p.m. PT, leading off the network’s 2013 Tip-Off Marathon.
