STANFORD, Calif. -- Rising sophomore infielder Tommy Edman was named to the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) South All-Star team, the league announced Sunday. Edman, a member of the Newport Gulls, will start at shortstop for the South squad.

The 21st NECBL All-Star Game will be held Sunday, July 20 at MacKenzie Stadium, the home of the Valley Blue Sox, in Holyoke, Massachusetts. First pitch is slated for 5:05 p.m. after a skills competition and home run derby in the afternoon.

Edman leads Newport in hitting, having gone 26-for-76 (.342) as of July 14. The switch-hitter has hit four home runs, driven in 12 and struck out just six times in 17 games. Edman also leads the team with six stolen bases.

Edman is the second current Cardinal player to be named a starter in his respective summer league all-star game, joining pitcher Cal Quantrill of the Coastal Plain League’s Morehead City Marlins. Quantrill starts on the hill July 14 in the CPL All-Star Game.
