Quantrill, a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American during the 2014 Cardinal campaign, is 2-0 with a 0.90 ERA in two starts for the Morehead City Marlins this summer. He has allowed just one run, while striking out 15 and walking two. Opponents have been limited to a .143 batting average (5-35) and produced only two extra-base hits (two doubles) against the rising sophomore.
Georgia’s Jared Cheek will start for the West All-Stars against Quantrill’s East team.
Three other Cardinal freshmen pitchers are also on the Marlins’ club, Tyler Thorne, Chris Viall and Griffin Weir. Thorne has a 1.00 ERA in nine innings, Weir owns a 3.60 ERA in five innings and Viall allowed two earned runs in his only appearance.
