STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford junior midfielder Hannah Farr has been added to the watch list for the Tewaaraton Award, the most prestigious annual honor in collegiate women’s lacrosse.

Farr joins teammates Rachel Ozer, a senior attack, and sophomore midfielder Lucy Dikeou, who were named to the preseason list. Farr is among two additions to the list, presented by Panama Jack, which now numbers 53.

Players are given the chance to play their way onto the lists, which is exactly what Farr has done. She has led Stanford to a 5-1 record and No. 15 ranking, going into the Cardinal’s Mountain Pacific Sports Federation home opener Saturday against Saint Mary’s at noon.

Farr has nine goals, two assists, 14 ground balls, 12 draw controls, and four caused turnovers. Just as impressive is Farr’s ability to control possession by using her athletic ability to evade defenders and hold on to the ball in crucial situations. Farr scored the winning goal in an 8-7 overtime victory at No. 11 Towson recently and followed by causing a turnover and picking up the ground ball that led to the winning goal in an 11-10 overtime victory over No. 14 Georgetown.

The list will be expanded April 10 and then be cut to 25 on April 24. Five finalists will be announced May 8 and invited to the awards ceremony May 29 in Washington, D.C.

The addition of Farr brings the number of Stanford players on the list to nine since 2006. Lauren Schmidt ’10 and Laura Shane ’08 each were named to the list three times. Last year, Ozer, goalie Lyndsey Munoz and midfielder Anna Kim were named. Those three are seniors on this year’s squad.

Farr is a native of Hillsborough, Calif., just up the Peninsula from Stanford, and starred at San Francisco’s St. Ignatius Prep before embarking on a two-sport collegiate career. Farr also plays soccer and was a member of Stanford’s 2011 NCAA championship team.
