Freshmen Earn Honors

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford women’s lacrosse incoming freshmen Elizabeth Cusick and Alex Poplawski competed in the Under Armour All-America Girls Lacrosse Classic this past weekend in Towson, Md., and helped lead the North to an 18-16 victory over the South.

Cusick scored a goal on three shots, picked up two ground balls, claimed a draw control and caused a turnover.  Poplawski started for the North and claimed two draw controls and a ground ball.

Cusick graduated in 2013 from Westfield High School in Westfield, N.J. She notched 82 goals, 16 assists and 30 ground balls this past season, and holds the school record for career goals (268) and points (332).

A native of Springfield, Pa., Poplawski graduated from Springfield-Delco High School in 2013. She recorded 70 goals, 40 assists and 39 ground balls in her senior campaign and was named her high school’s Scholar Athlete of the Year.

In addition to Cusick and Poplawski’s participation in the Under Armour All-America Girls Lacrosse Classic, five Stanford incoming freshmen were named to the U.S. Lacrosse Girls High School All-America First Team.

Honorees include: Poplawski, Kelsey Murray (Illinois/New Trier), Charlotte Ward (New Hampshire/St. Paul's School), Laura Klein (Northern California/Foothill) and Felicia Tissenbaum (Western Pennsylvania/ Shady Side Academy).

The decorated freshman class will join a talented Stanford group that claimed its eighth MPSF Tournament title in nine years and its first NCAA Tournament victory in 2013.
