STANFORD, Calif. – Liz Hogan will join Stanford women’s lacrosse as an assistant coach, as announced Thursday by head coach Amy Bokker.

A current member of the U.S. Women’s National Team, Hogan brings three years of Division I coaching experience to the Cardinal staff. She served as an assistant coach at Virginia Tech during the 2014 season after spending the two previous years at Colgate University.

“Liz is an accomplished player and a proven assistant coach,” said Bokker. “She will immediately add a new dynamic to our defense and specialized work with our three goalkeepers.  I have had the pleasure of coaching Liz on the U.S. National Team and her energy, commitment and work ethic come through each time she comes to a training weekend.”

Hogan’s primary responsibilities with the Hokies included goalkeeper coaching, defensive practice and game planning, video breakdown and recruiting contributions. She fulfilled these roles at Colgate as well and saw strong improvements in her goalkeepers at the national and conference level. Hogan also gained experience in coordinating an offense and making in-game decisions in 2013 in the absence of the head coach.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be able to take this position at Stanford and work under Amy,” said Hogan. “Stanford’s a great university academically and athletically. It has a fantastic balance and I’m really excited to get out to California and help bring this team to the next level.”

Hogan began coaching after an outstanding career at Syracuse where she went 52-23 as a four-year starter at goalkeeper. She is the all-time leader in saves (660) and ground balls (181) in program history. She was a four-time All-Big East First Team member, 2010 Big East Defender of the Year, First Team IWLCA All-American (2010), three-time First Team All-Northeast Region selection and three-time Big East regular season champion (2008, 2009, 2011).

Hogan joins a Stanford team that went 14-5 overall, finished second in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and made its fifth appearance at the NCAA Tournament in 2014.
