STANFORD, Calif. – No. 22/17 Stanford returns home after spending the past two weekends on the road to play host to the Louisville Slugger Classic.

The Cardinal (17-5) will play host to four teams, including BYU (7-10), North Dakota State (10-6), Portland State (3-9) and UC Davis (7-16). The tournament includes 12 games over four days beginning Thursday at 6 p.m. when Stanford takes on BYU.

The Cardinal went 3-2 last weekend at the Under Armour Invitational hosted by South Florida. Stanford picked up wins over Central Arkansas, Georgia State and Kennesaw State. The squad dropped decisions against South Florida and Central Connecticut State.

Stanford has been dominant offensively this season, holding advantages over opponents in runs (146-56), hits (196-109) and total bases (288-147). The Cardinal has been electric on the base paths, stealing 36 bases in 40 attempts.

Madi Schreyer (14-3) was excellent in the circle last weekend, recording 30 strikeouts and allowing one earned run in 29.0 innings of work, finishing 3-1 with a 0.24 ERA. Schreyer started four of Stanford’s five contests, throwing three complete games, and held opponents to a .160 batting average.

Schreyer holds a 1.29 ERA with 87 strikeouts and has allowed 19 earned runs in 103.1 innings pitched on the season. Of the 68 hits Schreyer has allowed this season, only 10 have gone for extra bases – a testament to Schreyer’s pitching and the Cardinal’s defense.

Kylie Sorenson continued the hot start to her collegiate career last weekend as well, going 5-for-10 (.500) with seven walks to lead the Cardinal in slugging percentage (.800) and on-base percentage (.737). Of Sorenson’s five hits two went for extra bases – one double and one triple. She scored two runs and delivered an RBI.

Sorenson leads the team in batting with a .421 average and boasts a team-best .702 slugging percentage. She also leads the team in doubles (9), walks (17) and on-base percentage (.551).

Erin Ashby, Kayla Bonstrom and Cassandra Roulund also had nice weekends, each batting above .300 in the five contests. Roulund is batting .331 on the year and leads the team in RBI (23) and total bases (42).

This weekend’s tournament will be the final nonconference games before Stanford begins Pac-12 play next weekend against California.
