Well hello there Cardinal Softball Fans!

After a long weekend in Florida, it is SO nice to be home again! This past weekend we were in the sunshine state, thereby avoiding an entire weekend of rain in the Bay Area. Although this weekend didn’t go exactly as we planned, there were definitely some highlights worth mentioning!

  • The team went 3-2 and outhit opponents 41-25.
  • Kylie Sorenson went 5-for-10 (.500) with a double, a triple, seven walks two hit-by-pitches and an RBI. She led the team with a .800 slugging percentage and .737 on-base percentage.
  • Madi Schreyer (14-3) recorded 30 strikeouts and allowed one earned run in 29.0 innings of work over five games this weekend, finishing 3-1 with a 0.24 ERA. She started four of Stanford’s five games, throwing three complete games, and held opponents to a .160 batting average.
  • Erin Ashby hit .412 (7-for-17) with four RBI, a home run and a double.

There were definitely some ups and downs this weekend but we won’t let those stop us. If anything those bumps in the road will make us better. On another note, we had an amazing, home-cooked meal prepared by Dr. Marcello’s wonderful mother and family. I can’t even begin to explain how good the food was! There was salad, strawberries, bread, meatballs, and lasagna galore!

There was just a slight downside to the trip as a whole though … those dreaded flight delays. After being delayed an hour in Florida, we successfully missed our connection flight in Houston. At this point our team had been up for countless hours and it was starting to show. If you don’t follow us on Instagram you definitely should - because there is a HILARIOUS video of some of us dancing around the airport.

But never fear! We made it back to campus safe and sound at the lovely hour of 1:30 a.m. (being up for almost 23 hours by that point, may I add).

Florida was a fun trip, but now we are looking forward to hosting our last tournament of the year here on our home turf. The Louisville Slugger tournament kicks off this Thursday and we all hope to see you out there this weekend!

Catch you later,

P.S. After our game this Sunday we have Little League Softball Day and Autograph Day. We would love to see everyone out there!
