SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Stanford freshmen won three events at the Hornet Track and Field Invitational at Sacramento State on Saturday, including a victory by reigning U.S. junior national javelin champion Megan Glasmann, who made her collegiate debut.

Glasmann trailed going into her final throw, but unleashed a toss of 159-10 on her sixth attempt for an improvement of more than seven feet. Her winning throw was enough to beat Sacramento State’s Emily Kerstring, who led most of the competition at 156-3.

Glasmann’s throw puts her No. 4 on the all-time Stanford performance list and No. 2 all-time among Stanford freshmen.

Also earning a big victory was freshman discus thrower Valarie Allman, who won with a throw of 180-4. Even more impressive was who she beat. In second place, at 175-0, was 2008 Olympic gold medalist Stephanie Brown-Trafton.

Allman entered the weekend as the national collegiate leader, having thrown 187-7 in her collegiate debut on March 8 in Berkeley. Stanford’s Rebecca Hammar was third at 161-1.

Also victorious was Stanford freshman Dylan Duvio, who captured the men’s pole vault at 16-4 ¾. Duvio entered the competition 16-0 ¾ and made his first try. He followed a first-try make at 16-4 ¾, but was unsuccessful in three attempts at 16-10 ¾.

Stanford brought nine athletes – five women and four men -- to the meet, which was held at Hornet Stadium, the site of this year’s U.S. championships. In all, Stanford won four women’s events and one men’s.

Stanford seniors also got into the act with victories by Alyssa Wisdom in the women’s shot put (46-3 ½) and Ellie McCardwell in the women’s pole vault (12-7 ½).

Stanford’s first meet with its full squad will be April 4-5 at the Stanford Invitational.
