STANFORD, Calif. – Coming off a third-place finish at the 2013 NCAA Championships, Stanford men’s gymnastics enters 2014 ranked fourth in GymInfo’s top 15 preseason coaches’ poll.
Stanford returns 10 letterwinners, including five All-Americans, from the 2013 team that made the Cardinal’s 15th consecutive NCAA Championships appearance (30th overall). It was the Cardinal’s seventh NCAA top-three finish in the past eight years. Stanford also welcomes a talented group of seven freshmen for the 2014 campaign.
The Cardinal will face four teams ranked in the preseason top-15 poll during the regular season, including defending national champion and top-ranked Michigan, No. 2 Oklahoma, No. 4 Ohio State and No. 7 California. Stanford will see its fifth ranked team at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships when it takes on No. 11 Air Force.
The Cardinal begins its season Jan. 11 at 1 p.m. at Cal in a meet that will be televised on the Pac-12 Network. Stanford will see the Golden Bears the following week for its home-opener in the Big Flip Off on Jan. 18 at 4 p.m. in Burnham Pavilion.
