STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford lightweight rowing gets the opportunity to extend its iron grip on its sport this weekend at Lake Natoma, going for a fourth straight national title at the IRA Championships June 1-2.

Racing begins for the Cardinal lightweights Saturday morning at 8:45 a.m. in the second heat of the I Eight class. The Cardinal will face Bucknell, Princeton and MIT in the second heat, with the top two finishers advancing to Sunday's Grand Final.
A repechage will be held Friday afternoon for the remaining boats in the field, with the top two finishers rounding out Sunday's Grand Final lineup.
Stanford also enters its Four into the competition. The boat will face off with Fordham, Radcliffe (Harvard), Wisconsin, Princeton, MIT Saturday at 9 a.m. in a race to determine lanes for Sunday's Grand Final at 9 a.m. Sunday.
The Cardinal owns a victory at the San Diego Crew Classic, as well as a second-place finish at the WIRA Championships against open-weight competition in late April. The I Eight's only lightweight defeat this season came April 21 in Boston when the Cardinal came in second to Princeton.
