GOLD RIVER, Calif. - Stanford lightweight rowing's I Eight will get its chance to row for a fourth straight IRA National Championship Sunday following a win in Saturday's preliminary heat at Lake Natoma.
Sunday's Grand Final is set for an 11:35 a.m. start. Harvard, Wisconsin and Bucknell also automatically qualified for the Grand Final, while the remaining two spots will be filled through Saturday afternoon's repechage.
The I Eight crossed the line in 6:38.387 in its heat, over five seconds ahead of the field. Bucknell was second in 6:43.696 followed by Princeton (6:46.783) and MIT (6:58.842).
The Four took part in a race for lanes for Sunday's final, taking fourth in 7:42.763, just under 16 seconds behind Wisconsin's winning time of 7:26.998. The boat will return to action Sunday in the Four Grand Final at 9 a.m.
