GOLD RIVER, Calif. - Stanford lightweight rowing completed action at the WIRA Championships on Lake Natoma Sunday with the "A" Four capturing the lightweight four class and the I Eight finishing second in the open eight division.

Stanford returns to action May 18 at the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships at Lake Natoma.

The I Eight, taking part in the Grand Final Sunday, went stroke-for-stroke with defending champion Gonzaga over the 2,000-meter course, in the end being edged out by two-tenths of a second. The Cardinal crossed the line in 6:47.9 while Gonzaga took the win in 6:47.7.

In the lightweight four competition, Stanford's A boat captured its title with a five-second win over defending champion Humboldt State. The Cardinal's time of 7:44.9 beat out Humboldt State's 7:49.8, while the Cardinal B entry took fourth in the five-boat race with a time of 8:14.1.
