Four Stanford players will be competing for the United States team at the CONCACAF Under-20 tournament that begins Thursday in the Cayman Islands.
Goalkeeper Jane Campbell, and defenders Stephanie Amack, Maddie Bauer and Laura Liedle are among 20 players named to the U.S. roster for the eight-team event that determines the region’s three berths in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada from Aug. 5-24. Campbell, Amack, and Bauer are freshmen, and Liedle is a sophomore.
No other school is represented by as many players as Stanford.
The CONCACAF field is divided into two groups of four. The group winners advance to the final and earn automatic berths to the FIFA event. The group runners-up play off for the other World Cup spot.
The U.S. was drawn into Group A and plays Costa Rica on Thursday, Jamaica on Saturday, and Guatemala on Monday, Jan. 13. All begin at 4:30 p.m. PT.
The championship final and third-place matches are Jan. 19. The entire tournament will be played at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex in George Town.
All four players were regular starters for Stanford (15-6-1), which advanced to the third round of the NCAA tournament for the eighth consecutive season.
