Card Excels in Classroom

STANFORD, Calif. – The Stanford women’s soccer team earned an NSCAA Team Academic Award and eight Cardinal were recognized on the Pac-12 All-Academic team, in separate scholar-athlete awards released Thursday.

Programs that had a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher earned the NSCAA honor for the 2012-13 academic year. Stanford carried a 3.28 team GPA.

All eight Stanford players on the Pac-12 All-Academic team received honorable mention honors. The players were junior midfielder Alex Doll, junior midfielder Hannah Farr, senior defender Natalie Griffen, sophomore defender Laura Liedle, senior forward Shelby Payne, senior forward Sydney Payne, junior defender Kendall Romine, and senior Courtney Verloo.

This is the third such All-Academic honor for Griffen, Verloo, and Sydney Payne. It is the second for Doll and Shelby Payne, and the first for Farr, Liedle, and Romine.

Since the conference began selecting All-Academic teams in 1994, 87 different Stanford players have been honored a combined 169 times.
