STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford freshman goalkeeper Jane Campbell was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week for her performance in the Cardinal’s 2-0 conference-opening victory at Colorado on Saturday.

She earned her second shutout and improved to 6-0-0 since taking over for senior All-America Emily Oliver, who retired for medical reasons. Campbell has contributed to four shutout victories in her six starts, and her goals-against average has dropped to 0.48.

Campbell made two saves and successfully defended six Colorado corner kicks against the Buffaloes, who entered the match at 8-1, the best nonconference record in school history.

A native of Kennesaw, Ga., Campbell has been one of Stanford’s most heralded recruits. Last spring, at age 17, she was the youngest goalkeeper ever called into a full U.S. national team camp. She also has excelled at youth international levels.

This week, Campbell and her teammates play their Pac-12 home-opening matches, first playing host to Arizona on Friday (4 p.m.), and then Arizona State on Sunday (5:30 p.m.).
