STANFORD, Calif. – Rising junior offensive center Graham Shuler has been named to the Rimington Award Watch List. Shuler is one of 66 players named to the list and one of six from the Pac-12 Conference.
The Rimington Trophy is awarded to the most outstanding center in Division I football. The winner of the Rimington Trophy will be selected by determining the consensus All-American center pick from three All-America Teams – the Walter Camp Football Foundation, Sporting News and the Football Writers Association of America.
Since its inception, the Rimington Trophy has raised over $2.5 million for the cystic fibrosis community. The 14-year old award is overseen by the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which is committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis and has raised over $100 million for research.
The Rimington Trophy will be presented Jan. 17, 2014 at the Rocco Theatre in Lincoln, Neb.
Shuler highlights an intriguing theme for Stanford’s offensive line in 2014. The Cardinal must replace four graduating starters on the line including a unanimous All-America selection in David Yankey and two NFL draft selections in Yankey and Cameron Fleming. However, Shuler is among a group of players ready to fill the roles in Stanford’s unique offensive sets featuring multiple offensive linemen – with as many as eight linemen on the field at one time.
Shuler earned significant playing time at center and in the Cardinal’s “jumbo” packages in 2013 for one of the nation’s leading offensive lines. Stanford ranked 22nd in rushing offense at 207.4 yards per game, seventh in tackles for a loss allowed and 11th-best in sacks allowed
Stanford’s season opens Aug. 30 with a 1 p.m. (PT) home game against UC Davis on Pac-12 Networks. The Cardinal plays its first three games at home with USC visiting the Stadium Sept. 6 (12:30 p.m., ABC) and Army visiting Sept. 13 (2 p.m., Pac-12 Net).
Season tickets are on sale with five sections and price levels already sold out. Three-game Mini plans are also on sale now.
Season ticket holders are eligible to purchase individual game tickets for all 2014 home games starting July 8-9. Single-game tickets go on sale July 21 with a special online-only promotion code through Stanford’s Facebook and @GoStanford Twitter account. All tickets are on sale starting July 22.
