STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford women’s gymnastics enters the 2014 Pac-12 Championships seeded third, as announced by the conference Tuesday.
The Cardinal will compete in Session I on Saturday at 1 p.m. (PT) in Berkeley, Calif. Stanford is joined by top-seeded Utah, No. 2 UCLA and No. 4 Oregon State. The Cardinal’s rotation order will be beam, floor, vault and bars.
Session II will consist of No. 5 California, No. 6 Arizona, No. 7 Arizona State and No. 8 Washington, and take place at 6:30 p.m.
Stanford finished the regular season with a 13-3 record (5-2 Pac-12), defeating six top-25 teams – including two in the top 10. Since the conference championships began in 1987, Stanford has claimed five conference titles (1998, 2001, 2004, 2006 and 2008). The Cardinal has finished no lower than fourth over the past 13 conference championships, including all 12 under head coach Kristen Smyth.
The field is wide open this year with each of the four teams in the first session holding at least one win over another team in the same session. Stanford defeated Utah earlier this season, 197.000-196.300.
The seeding for the Pac-12 Championships is determined by the NCAA regional qualifying scores, which are calculated based on the teams’ six best regular-season meet scores – three at home and three on the road. The highest score is eliminated and the remaining five scores are averaged.
