STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford women’s gymnastics senior Amanda Spinner was named the Pac-12 Specialist of the Week, as announced by the conference Tuesday.
Spinner, the reigning Pac-12 Specialist of the Year and Pac-12 co-champion on beam, picked up right where she left off and delivered a 9.850 at the NorCal Quad Meet at Sacramento State to tie for the individual title on the event.
Stanford won the season-opening meet, defeating California, Sacramento State, UC Davis and San Jose State.
Spinner’s clutch performance in the anchor position was especially important considering the gymnast before her had a fall. By hitting her routine and recording Stanford’s highest score on the event, Spinner helped give Stanford an early lead and eventually win the competition.
Spinner has hit 100 percent of her collegiate routines dating back to Feb. 12, 2012.
California’s Alicia Asturias and Charlie Owens were named Gymnast of the Week and Newcomer of the Week, respectively.
Stanford plays host to No. 8 Georgia this Sunday at 2 p.m. in Maples Pavilion. Admission is free.
