STANFORD, Calif. – Three Stanford players shot par or better as the women’s golf team started the spring season Saturday by playing host to the Peg Barnard Invitational. Casey Danielson and Mariah Stackhouse tied for third with a 1-under 70 while eighth-place Lauren Kim turned in an even-par 71.

The Cardinal’s 287 led the 14-team field through 18 holes at Stanford Golf Course and gave the home team a four-shot lead over second-place UC Davis.

“Today was a pretty decent start to the spring season,” said Anne Walker, Stanford’s Margot and Mitch Milias Director of Women's Golf. “We definitely left some shots out there, but overall, I liked what I saw.”

UNLV’s Dana Finkelstein and Cal’s Lucia Gutierrez topped all individuals with a 2-under 69.

Action resumes Sunday with a 9 a.m. (PT) shotgun start for the final 18 holes on the 6,084-yard course.

Starting her round on the third hole, Danielson was 1-under through six holes and dipped to 2-under with a birdie soon after her penultimate drive. Danielson ended the day with a bogey on the par-4 second.

Stackhouse, the defending tournament medalist, played the front nine at even and birdied the par-5 12th, remaining at 1-under for the final six holes.

Kim had birdies on 13 and 17 to finish the back nine at 1-under, and Mariko Tumangan, who is tied for 38th with a 76, was 1-over on the front nine.

Checking in at 49th was Quirine Eijkenboom, as her 78 came with a trio of birdies.

Individuals Marissa Mar (77), Jisoo Keel (78) and Danielle Frasier (78) also sit among the top-50 scorers.
